A source close to NPCIL was quoted by Itar-Tass as saying that the second synchronization required turbine shutdown for evaluation of the equipment during which the unit’s reactor capacity was kept at approximately 160MW.
”After the required checks are completed, the turbine will be started-up again, and the generator will be connected to the grid,” the source added.
”All the works on putting the unit into operation are carried out under the strict supervision of the Indian regulatory authority in this sphere (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board).”
Located in the Tirunelveli district, the Kudankulam NPP is scheduled to supply electricity to both Tamil Nadu, and the entire south India.
Having reached critical condition in July 2013, the first unit’s start up is scheduled to be carried out in the near future, while the construction of the second power unit is nearing completion, according to the news agency.
