The project has been awarded to Acciona Energia by the Chilean government in the recently held tenders.
It is part of Chile’s plan to feed 500GWh of electricity into the grid, generated through renewable resources.
At present, Chile is being considered as one of the fastest growing countries in Latin America in terms of wind energy.
The country is estimated to add about 350MW of average wind projects per annum till 2025.
The government recently auctioned about 12.4TWh a year of electricity for the period between 2022 and 2042. This energy is equivalent to about 30% of the energy needs of the country by 2021.
Nordex is presently in holding talks with Acciona to be the preferred turbine supplier for the wind project.
The project will be built in the La Araucania region and will provide green energy to Chile. The project is expected to be completed by 2022.
The proposed date of construction and other details about the project will depend on the outcome of the talks between Acciona and Nordex.
Acciona Energia has been operating in Chile for several years. It has recently won about 600GWh per annum for the generation period from 2018 to 2032.
Nordex said after signing the pending supply contracts and securing project finance, it will publish detailed information on the future order receipt.
