Ukraine has produced over 90,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) in 2008 and operates four nuclear power plants. Ukraine also mines uranium, but it does not have industrial capacity for its enrichment. The nuclear fuel for Ukraine is imported from Russia as per an agreement which expires in 2010.
Ukraine has also started cooperation with Westinghouse Electric Company, LLC. Presently, Westinghouse supplies fuel to the South Ukraine nuclear power plant, whose reactors were designed to operate on Russian fuel. The leadership of Ukraine does not rule out additional cooperation with Westinghouse.
And at the same time, if NNEGC Energoatom signs an agreement with TVEL on nuclear fuel supplies for until 2026, the estimation of continuing cooperation with Westinghouse will be questioned.
