Seven gas-fired power plants are planned for development in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, at a cost of some $2.3 billion, minister of finance Nenadi Usman has reportedly said.

In addition, a further $ 1.6 billion is being spent on “associated investments” in the downstream gas sector and $1.8 billion in the upstream gas sector.

The power plants are expected to add around 7 GW to Nigeria’s current installed capacity of some 3,000 MW.

In the next year or so additional expenditure on the $2 billion Mambila and Zungeru hydro projects is also anticipated.
