Under this project NI Water upgraded the facility and improved the wastewater infrastructure in Antrim and the surrounding area including parts of Crumlin, Randalstown and Templepatrick to cater for a population of 87,000.
The wastewater infrastructure enhancement included building new pumping station in Antrim and the closing combined sewer overflows among other works to provide protection to the Six Mile Water River and improve the quality of water in Lough Neagh.
The work in Antrim that required over 115,000 man hours to upgrade the facility to meet the new Environment Agency standards for wastewater treatment represents part of a GBP490m investment by NI Water in wastewater services throughout the North over the past three years.
NI Water CEO Laurence MacKenzie said that this project was a tremendous undertaking by NI Water and its success lies in the planning and strategic thinking of all involved including Antrim Borough Council and other agencies.
