As part of its plans, the company has signed agreements with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company (WBSEDCL) and the West Bengal Government.
NHPC will develop four projects, which will have a combined power generation capacity of 293MW , on build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) basis.
Planned to be built on Teesta and Rangit Rivers, the four projects include 80MW Teesta Low Dam-V,81MW Teesta low dam I & II, 84MW Teesta Intermediate Stage and 48MW Rammam Stage-I, reported The Echo of India.
The proposed projects are expected to help meet the power demands in north Bengal as well as help the infrastructural and socio-economic development of the region.
In 2013, NHPC commissioned the 132MW TLD-III power station near Rambi, Darjeeling. The company is also likely to complete 160MW TLDP-IV HE project in Kalijhora in the state by June 2016.
NHPC was launched in 1975 with an objective to plan, promote and organize an integrated development of hydroelectric power.
The expanded objects of the company also include development of power through conventional and non-conventional sources.
