The contract has been awarded by Eiffage Energie, under which the company will supply 90% of the cables.
Nexans will manufacture and deliver about 5,000km of medium and low voltage, PV and data cables for the project, which is claimed to be Europe’s largest solar farm.
The cables will be manufactured at the Bourg-en-Bresse, Jeumont and Andrézieux facilities in France. Installation is expected to be completed by summer 2015.
The Cestas project will feature about one million solar panels and will cover 250ha of land divided into 25 solar facilities. Grid connection is expected in October 2015.
After completion, the solar farm will generate over 350 gigawatt-hours of energy per year, enough to meet the daytime electricity consumption of the total population of Bordeaux.
Eiffage Energie will operate the project through Clemessy consortium, which has various investors including Neoen, established to construct, operate and maintain the solar farm.
Eiffage Energie photovoltaic projects manager Fernando Dos Santos said: "Eiffage Energie chose Nexans because of its full range offer from low and medium voltage cables to photovoltaic cables for this project.
"Another important factor was that Nexans offers advanced supply chain solutions and direct delivery to site."
