Newmarket-Tay will deploy Energate Foundation Smart Thermostat and Home Energy Gateway in homes operating over the Sensus open standards-based FlexNet utility communication network with ZigBee-enabled meters.
The utility is the first local distribution company to deploy demand response technology that communicates over the smart meter AMI network using Energate’s Consumer-Connected Demand Response (CCDR) solution platform.
Using the Energate’s smart thermostats, consumers can manage and control their energy usage and can also access to an enhanced Consumer Portal and mobile applications that allows them to remotely monitor real time energy consumption and control loads in their homes.
Energate CEO Niraj Bhargava said the company’s Smart meter-compatible Foundations are being deployed by Newmarket in Ontario homes.
"This deployment is part of a trend where utilities can now build real consumer value on top of a utility demand response program," Bhargava added.
