The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in China has recently approved several new hydropower schemes in the country.

According to reports from Reuters, NDRC recently approved the 2.6GW Changheba project, the 2.4GW Guan’di hydropower station and the 600MW Tongzilin hydropower project in Sichuan province, together with the approval of early stage studies for the the 8.7-GW Wudongde and 14-GW Baihetan hydropower projects.

China needs to build an additional 120GW of hydropower by 2015 to help meet energy targets, the Government has announced.
