India’s Power Ministry is looking to develop a new framework that could boost hydropower development in the country, national media have reported.

According to reports from the India Times, the framework would aim to lower the cost to develop hydropower projects, while also removing lengthy clearance processes.

The newspaper quoted Additional Power Secretary B P Pandey as saying the government would look to devise ‘innovative financing models’ that could help to restore investor confidence in the hydro sector, and encourage private sector participation.

It would also look to remove the clearance processes, while taking into account environmental studies.
