Currently the plant, located in Taua, Fortaleza, Ceara state, comprises of 4,680 solar panels capturing sunlight and turning it into 1MW of clean energy, which MPX estimates is enough to power 1,500 households in the region.
The agreement enables GE to deliver an additional 1MW solar power plant, which includes the company’s thin film panels, Brilliance inverters, transformers and SunIQ monitoring and control system.
The project has secured a $5.8m in investment, including about $695,000 from the Inter-American Development Bank.
MPX said the power project developed by the company for the solar plant is expected to reach 50MW, and the partnership is expected to continue with this future expansion.
