The EV project aims to popularize EVs through use of the i-MiEV electric vehicles, researching the acceptability and marketability of EVs in Thailand, setting up user support systems, and expanding charging infrastructure.
While Mitsubishi Motors Thailand will begin initiatives for future market introduction of the i-MiEV EV, the Thai government will advance the EV project by creating an integrated organization with related ministries and government agencies under the direction of the Ministry of Industry (MOI).
MMC, which is already selling i-MiEV in Japan and in Hong Kong, Australia and European markets, is also collaborating with several governments around the globe including the Principality of Monaco and Iceland, among others to work on the popularization and promotion of EVs in these countries.
MMC president Osamu Masuko said that this joint EV study project with the Thai Ministry of Industry is a happy occasion for both Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Motors Thailand.
"The popularization of EVs in Thailand will not only contribute to the reduction of environmental burdens, but will also be an important aspect in bolstering Thailand’s competitive edge in the next-generation vehicle industry," Masuko said.
