Metso Corporation has secured a €9m order from Finnish energy company Savon Voima to supply a bio-mass fired heating plant.

The heating plant is expected to increase Savon’s renewable-powered heat production capacity for the municipality of Leppävirta.

Metso Bioheat Plants sales-in-charge Teemu Koskela termed the Leppävirta project to an important one for the company.

"We want to be a reliable partner in advancing Savon Voima’s sustainable projects that use domestic fuel. We will supply a plant which will reduce the use of fossil fuels and provide an energy efficient solution for district heat production," added Koskela.

Metso’s turnkey delivery will include process equipment and buildings as well as installation and construction work alongside a flue gas scrubber.

The new heating plant, powered by wood-based biomass, is expected to produce 8MW of energy and hot water once it is operational in late 2013.
