Meralco, through its wholly owned subsidiary Meralco PowerGen, is in talks with the Japan-based electric utilities provider Chubu Electric Power for a power plant, according to Department of Energy (DoE).
The two companies are considering on a partnership to put up an LNG power facility that is likely to generate anywhere from 1,200MW to 1,750MW.
Both firms received a clearance by the DoE to conduct a grid impact study (GIS) for the proposed power plant, reported inquirer.net.
The study will be done by the transmission network operator National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) as the clearance came with a letter of endorsement from the DoE to NGCP.
Meralco PowerGen, along partners Aboitiz Power and Taiwan Cogeneration, is involved in the proposed 600MW coal-fired power plant to be set up within the Subic free port.
