Canada-based communications and information company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) has signed a contract with Bruce Power to develop inspection and maintenance technologies for its nuclear reactors.

A Canada-based nuclear operator, Bruce Power has secured the CAD2.2m ($1.62m) contract as part of the design phase of the Bruce Reactor Inspection and Maintenance System (BRIMS).

The objective of BRIMS is to improve the inspection and maintenance technologies used in the reactors to reduce nuclear reactor outage durations.

The environment in which these technologies are used can be accessed only robotics.

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Brampton robotics business head Don Osborne said, "We have been selected to help improve inspection technologies, based on the sound engineering and safety disciplines we have honed through many years of working on space robotics solutions."
