The mobile phone manufacturer Matsushita Communication Industrial has installed a 400 kW combined heat and power (CHP) plant at its factory near Reading. The unit, which cost $166 000, will provide 600 kW of heat for an absorption chiller as well as electricity to the site.
The installation, which reaceived a grant of $160 000 from the CHP Association’s Small Scale Industrial CHP Programme, is expected to save $180 000 each year.
