Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi said the government was "on track" towards cheaper bills and cleaner air, reported maltatoday.
The shortlisted bidders are Daewoo Shipping and Marine Engineering, ElectroGas Malta Consortium, Edison SPA, Endeavour Energy Holdings and Exodus Crossing, Soffimat Gestamp, and Yildirim Tecnicas Power and Gas.
The bidders were shortlisted after having qualified through an initial expression of interest for the purchase of LNG and its eventual sale to Enemalta, to power a new 200MW power plant as well as the current ‘phase 2’ extension of the Delimara power plant.
"We have been working on this project since day one of being elected," Mizzi was quoted by the publication.
"Within less than a month of being elected, the government issued an international call for expressions of interest, receiving 19 submissions, a testament to the strong interest in this feasible project."
