The appraisal well is situated on the north eastern side of the Johan Sverdrup discovery and is 3km from the recently spud wells 16/2-13A and 16/2-10 on production licenses PL501 and PL265 respectively.

The 16/2-16 well on the production license PL501 will be drilled to a total planned depth of about 2,250m below mean sea level.

Lundin is drilling the well to examine the reservoir quality and oil and water contact between the two wells, 16/2-13A and 16/2-10, and provide information on depth conversion and also provide data on aquifer support.

Statoil owns 40% interest while Mærsk Oil Norway holds 20% interest in the license and Lundin is the operator of the PL501 with 40%interest.
