Lucara Diamond has sold 20 single stone lots, totaling 1,191 carats, for gross revenues of $50.47m ($42,347 per carat) at first exceptional stone tender of 2014.

Among the lot, a 167.1 carat and an 86.8 carat diamonds were sold for $12.7m and $5.1m respectively while of 15 of 20 were sold for more than $1.0m including 8 which were sold for more than $2.0m.

Lucara Diamond president and CEO William Lamb said that the mine had produced a number of high value diamonds this year which are considering for this tender, including a 153.5 carat gem quality stone.

"Strong regular tenders combined with the outstanding results from the exceptional stone tender continue to demonstrate the quality of the Karowe Mine and firmly establishes Karowe as one of the world’s leading diamond producers by value, further reinforcing the updated resource statement issued in December 2013," Lamb added.

The company is planning for next exceptional stone tender for the third quarter 2014.

The Karowe Mine is located in north-central Botswana and is part of the Orapa/Letlhakane Kimberlite district.
