The region will use the EPA grant to repair and replace approximately 40,000ft of existing sewer which is deteriorating due to age. The project is expected to reduce sewage overflows to local streams, blockages that can cause sewage backups into buildings, and pavement failures above collapsing pipes.
EPA, which is responsible for the protection of the nation’s water quality and public health, is working with different communities, public and private partners to meet the growing needs and demands of limited water resources.
Karl Brooks, region 7 administrator of EPA, said: “It’s always a pleasure to help Kansas communities better protect their water resources. These water infrastructure funds will partially fund the construction project which is estimated to cost $2.6m.”
