The utility is planning to deploy Gridstream RF mesh network technology, E350 FOCUS AX-SD residential meters and E650 S4e commercial meters to all of its member customers over an 18-month period beginning early 2012.
In addition to collecting interval meter data for billing and system management, the utility intends to use the system to enhance consumer programs and operations.
The residential meters which are being installed by the utility also include integrated remote service switches and ZigBee communications for home area network applications.
The integrated service switch will allow Kosciusko REMC to offer prepaid metering as an alternative to high deposits.
Kosciusko REMC president and CEO Steve Rhodes said Gridstream will provide access to information and the ability to remotely manage distribution system in ways that will help enhance customer service, lower costs and improve overall efficiency.
