Kenya Electricity Generating Company has announced plans to raise the Masinga Dam wall by an additional 1.5m, local media has reported.

The Sh1.1B (US$14M) plan would expand the dam’s capacity by 25% to 2B litres from its current 1.6B litre capacity. Following heavy rains in the country, the dam is currently spilling water after reaching its full water level of 1056m.

According to media reports, a consultant has already been appointed to oversee the project and work is expected to start once heavy rains cease.
