Kazakhstan’s Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Byrlyk Orazbayev, says that the projects for the construction of the two Kambaratinsk hydroelectric power plants in Kyrgyzstan are no longer of interest to Kazakhstan

According to the Interfax news agency, Orazbayev said that the two projects were evaluated and found to be unprofitable.

Construction of the two plants started in 1990, but construction work has been halted because of a lack of funding – estimates are that US$2B is required for their completion.
