James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) has secured a contract to provide project engineering services for the installation of GWave's first wave energy device of its kind in Europe, the Power Generation Vessel (PGV).
GWave, which is based in Maine, USA, has spent the past decade developing the innovative technology, which has been designed to be able to generate up to 9MW of renewable energy – more than that produced by the biggest offshore wind turbine currently available.
The work will be undertaken by a division of JFMS, Marine Projects (previously Mojo Maritime), who will be on hand to assist in the delivery of the project at the Wave Hub site in Cornwall. Wave Hub was chosen in recognition of the strong wave resource, infrastructure and industry experience available in the area, making it a well suited test area for the PGV installation.
JFMS’s Principal Naval Architect, Bob Colclough said: "We are delighted to be involved in this transatlantic project; GWave’s commitment to the South West is a great testament to the strength and depth of supply chain.
