Using AURUM, utilities could build an advanced metering infrastructure that would support their current needs as well as position them for future smart grid applications.
The new product provides two-way communication between utilities and connected assets in the field – which allows for control and monitoring of field components, remote meter readings, remote service connection and disconnection, power outage and restoration notifications.
Itron Energy Group general manager Gadner Vieira said the company has leveraged its technology and smart grid expertise to bring a new solution tailored for Brazilian utilities.
"Utilities need sophisticated tools to address the tremendous amount of technical and non-technical losses each year," Vieira added.
"Itron’s new product, AURUM, is the technology that promises to become the principal solution for utilities to deal with these issues while increasing operational efficiency at the same time."
AURUM capitalizes on Itron’s RF mesh network to provide a cost effective solution and cuts down non-technical losses by allowing utilities to manage multiple meters with a single system, the company said.
