EDF’s ownership of Edison, which is under a joint venture with the Milan-based firm AEM, has long been a concern for the Italians, who see EDF’s incursion over the alps as unfair considering the obstacles placed before the European expansion aims of its own national energy heavyweight, Enel.
Mr Bersani told Les Echos that Enel will have our total support for its plans to grow beyond the home market.
The EDF probe is to both verify that there isn’t a concentration incompatible with our competition rules and if it doesn’t result in blocking private operators’ access to the market, Mr Bersani told Les Echos.
