The Energy Mining Planning Unit (UPME) awarded ISA, through a public bidding process, the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the 500 kV Copey - Cuestecitas and 220 kV Copey - Fundación transmission lines.

This project will guarantee reliability and service assurance in the regions of Cesar, La Guajira and Magdalena, and should be in operation on November 30, 2020.

"The project awarded to ISA is part of UPME efforts to have the necessary infrastructure in the country to connect non-conventional renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar to the grid, which are becoming more important globally. Colombia has enormous potential in these energy generation sources in the north of the country and this transmission project, together with others coming up, will enable in Colombia a more diversified energy transmission grid. ISA is proud of continuously strengthening its position as the largest energy transmitter in Colombia and specially in this type of strategic projects", said, Bernardo Vargas Gibsone, ISA's CEO.

UPME’s estimated investment for this project is USD 102 million and ISA will receive annual revenues for USD 18.2 million (dollars as of December 2016), once in operation.

INTERCOLOMBIA, an ISA company, will oversee its execution and operation.
