• AMANDA HEINS OF THE North West and North Wales branch of the UK’s Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management has been announced as the 2001 winner of the newly established Young Members Award. Heins won the award with her paper ‘Remote sensing of bank erosion dynamics of the Brahma-putra river, Bangladesh’, which describes the use of remote sensing.

• THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Research and Information Association (CIRIA) has announced that Phil Chatfield of the UK’s Environment Agency has won the CIRIA Award 2001. The award is given in recognition of the most outstanding contribution to sharing knowledge and building best practice.

• UK-BASED POWER PLASTICS has picked up two top prizes at a recent industry awards ceremony. The awards, given on behalf of the Made-Up Textiles Association (MUTA) were set up to recognise innovation and excellence in the UK’s industrial and technical textiles industry.

• CANADA-BASED SUPPLIER of on-line partial discharge testing systems, Iris Power Engineering, has recently been awarded the R&D 100 Award by R&D Magazine, recognising Iris’s latest partial discharge product – Hydrotrac – as one of the most technologically significant new products available on the market today.
