Located in Bara tehsil in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh, the coal based supercritical thermal power plant is owned by Prayagraj Power Generation Company (PPGCL), a subsidiary company of Jaiprakash Power Ventures.

The project’s first unit was commissioned by BHEL in December 2015 while the third unit in advanced stage of construction.

Under the contract signed earlier, Bhel was responsible for the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the boiler and turbine-generator (BTG) package.

The company manufactured the key equipment for the project at its Haridwar, Trichy, Hyderabad, Ranipet and Bengaluru facilities. Construction work was carried out by the company's Power Sector – Northern Region.

Till date, the company has commissioned 12 sets of supercritical boilers and 10 sets of supercritical turbine generators while the remaining sets are in various stages of execution. Besides, it has secured orders for 48 steam generators and 41 turbo-generators.
