The government is also planning to create a plastic Waste Reprocessing Fund by levying a charge at the rate of 0.5% on the manufactured price of polymers produced or imported into the country that will be utilized in promoting the setting up of plastic waste reprocessing units.
India is currently experiencing a growth in the field of plastic industry and the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) has been conducting several academic and training programs on plastic production and management.
The different kinds of plastic tools and components designed and produced by CIPET are being used in defense applications, space projects, rehabilitation centers, railway signal communication, transport, telecommunication, and automobile sectors.
The Indian Parliamentary Consultative Committee believes that research should be conducted to make plastic more usable in the building and road construction and the establishment of the new center will mark a step towards achieving that goal.
