The Illinois Senate has rejected the construction of the proposed Taylorville Energy Center, a 602MW coal gasification power plant.

Nebraska-based Tenaska is the managing partner and lead developer of the power project, which is being developed in Christian County.

The integrated gasification combined-cycle plant is designed to capture more than 50% of the carbon dioxide emissions.

Tenaska vice president Bart Ford said that the company is currently evaluating its next course of action and it believes that there is a great deal of support in Illinois for the idea of clean coal power.

Tenaska has developed approximately 9,000MW of electric generating capacity across the US.
