The $35.5m contract requires Veolia Water to manage, operate and maintain the existing wastewater treatment plant located in San Ysidro, and then take the responsibility of startup and long-term operation of a secondary treatment expansion unit.
Veolia Water began the operation of the 25 million-gallons-per day (MGD) San Ysidro advanced primary wastewater treatment facility including five surface runoff canyon collection systems and two pump stations in 1996.
Veolia Water North America project manager Rich Perna said that the International Wastewater Treatment Plant is a unique solution to a multinational environmental issue.
"We’re pleased to continue as a partner for this contract to ensure the continued safe and cost-effective operation of this wastewater system," Perna said.
