
Located in the municipality of Esperanza, the Pier II wind farm will feature 33 Gamesa G97 wind turbines, each with 2MW capacity.
The facility, which is being developed with an investment of about $120m, will be connected to the grid and will supply renewable energy to 25,000 Mexican households while avoiding about 55,000t of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere every year.
Developed by Iberdrola along with a local partner Impulsora Latinoamericana de EnergÃas (ILER), the wind farm will be the Iberdrola’s fourth wind farm in Mexico and the first to be designed using supercomputing.
Expected to create 400 local workers for the construction and the subsequent operation and maintenance work, the project is begin developed using supercomputing system, Spanish acronym for High Resolution Wind Power Simulation (SEDAR), developed along with the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC-CNS).
