Hyundai Engineering has selected INEOS Technologies’ Innovene S process for Turkmengas’ $3bn petrochemical complex.
The gas chemical complex is under construction by consortium comprising LG International, TOYO Engineering and Hyundai Engineering at Turkmenbashi near the Caspian Sea in western Turkmenistan.
The companies have commenced the engineering phase of the project.
INEOS Technologies CEO Peter Williams said: "INEOS is very pleased to support the development of the petrochemical industry in Turkmenistan with Turkmengas and Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd., and looks forward to working with both companies to ensure the successful start-up of this world-scale petrochemical complex on the Caspian Sea."
The complex will feature a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) facility using Innovene S technology, which will produce 386,000t per annum (tpa), and a 50,000tpa INEOS Black Compounding line.
In addition to providing various products, including Bimodal PE 100 Pressure Pipe, and cater to customers, the facility will house a gas separation unit with an annual capacity of five billion cubic metres and a polypropylene unit with 80,000tpa production capacity.
Turkmenistan secured $2.5bn loans from Japanese and South Korean export credit banks to fund the project.
