A recent survey on Chile's future renewable energy development backed the use of mini hydro as the most favourable option, coming out ahead of biomass.

According to the survey, conducted by Chile’s El Mercurio newspaper, energy experts rated renewable energy sources and found mini hydroelectric stations are cheap, clean and small-scale with abundant suitable sites in the country’s Lakes District.

Mini-hydro could contribute an estimated 15% of the country’s electricity by 2020.
