Hercules Offshore has invested $10m in Luxembourg-based Discovery Offshore for building two ultra high-specification jackup rigs at Keppel FELS in Singapore.

The two rigs will be modeled on Keppel FELS ‘Super A’ Class proprietary design, and will have 75ft cantilever reach, off-line pipe handling capability, high capacity mud circulating systems, and 15,000 psi blowout preventer systems.

Both rigs will be able to function at water depths of 400ft, drill down to 35,000ft, take two million pounds of static hook load, and house 150 personnel.

The overall price for each rig will be $231m, and they will be ready in the third quarter of 2013.

Hercules will further make a Construction Management Agreement and Service Agreements with Discovery so that it can supervise the construction, marketing and operations of Discovery’s rigs, and carry out other corporate administrative functions required by Discovery.
