The license agreement grants Solid Energy the right to use GTL’s coal upgrading technology in New Zealand.

GTL CEO Fred Schulte said that GTL has a very strong partner in Solid Energy who has a great opportunity in New Zealand to promote a more efficient and value-added utilization of low-rank high moisture coals.

"This is an important step in GTL Energy’s growth plans which include further plant development in other parts of the world in the near term," Schulte said.

Solid Energy is currently completing the consenting (permitting) of its briquetting plant using GTL technology in Mataura in Eastern Southland of the South Island, New Zealand.

Construction will start at completion of the permitting process, with first production expected in 2012.
