GT Solar International has won a $228m order from South Korea-based OCI Company for polysilicon production equipment and technology.

GT Solar’s polysilicon production equipment includes energy efficient CVD reactors and technology including hydrochlorination, filament and product processing equipment to provide a complete end-to-end production solution.

OCI will incorporate the production equipment into its new phase four production facility.

Polysilicon producer OCI expects to complete construction of its 20,000 metric ton production plant by the fourth quarter of 2012.

OCI claimed when the plant becomes fully operational it is expected to increase the company’s total production polysilicon capacity to 62,000 metric tons annually.

GT Solar’s said the order will be included in its backlog for its current first quarter, which ends on 2 July 2011.

GT Solar is a provider of polysilicon production technology, and sapphire and silicon crystalline growth systems and materials for the solar, LED and other specialty markets.
