Greensmith Energy has completed and grid-connected the 20MW/80MWh energy storage system at the AltaGas Pomona Energy Facility in Pomona, California.

Working in close partnership with AltaGas, who selected the technology company in 2016, Greensmith set an industry record in the design, integration and installation of a state-of-the-art energy storage system in under four months – in response to the Aliso Canyon gas shortage.

Greensmith’s latest version of its multi-application software platform, GEMS5, is being leveraged for Resource Adequacy along with additional select grid operations to create additional revenue streams over time.

Greensmith president & CEO John Jung said: “With over 50 system deliveries in the last five years, Greensmith has worked not only to advance technology but accelerate time-to-market for grid-scale energy storage systems – with a 100% safety record.

“Aliso Canyon was a particularly exciting opportunity as it demonstrated our ability to partner with AltaGas and leverage our major OEM relationships to deliver the world’s largest and most complex energy storage systems safely and reliably. We are honored to be part of this landmark project in California in support of an energy leader, AltaGas.”

Greensmith chief operating officer and chief financial officer Jim Murphy said: “This project had a very tight construction and delivery time frame given the sheer size of the project.

“We worked seamlessly with our tier one supply chain and established ecosystem to deliver this benchmark project on time. Our system-wide expertise and deep integration experience was paramount to the successful delivery of this installation.”

Since 2008, Greensmith has been successfully designing and deploying energy storage solutions—with a flawless safety record.

With over 180MW of energy storage installed, Greensmith continues to dominate the grid-scale energy storage market and set standards for innovation, safety and reliability.
