Gabriel has also called for the creation of a federal manager to close gaps caused due to state monitoring of the industry.
“We must pull these older nuclear plants from the grid. That means tightening up the legislation we have,” said Gabriel.
In 2002, Gabriel’s Social Democratic Party in combination with the Green Party has passed a legislation which will phase out nuclear power by about 2021. Around 17 plants are still in operation.
