GE has won a contract from Pattern Development to deliver 61 wind turbines for the 180MW Meikle project in British Columbia, Canada.

The wind farm is being built around 33km north of Tumbler Ridge in the Peace Region of British Columbia. It is expected to go online in late 2016.

GE will deliver 35 3.2-103 units and 26 2.75-120 turbines for the project. The contract also includes a full service agreement

The company will use a mix of technologies to improve annual energy output throughout the project’s site.

After completion, the Meikle project will generate enough energy to meet power needs of about 54,000 homes in British Columbia and increase the province’s installed wind capacity by 38%.

Pattern Development CEO Mike Garland said: "We have worked with GE in the past, and the GE team and technology stepped up to the challenge at Meikle and helped provide us with an innovative and efficient solution to a complex site."

GE renewable energy business president and CEO Anne McEntee said: "Our goal at GE is to continue making wind power more widely available, and the Meikle wind project is an example of how sustained investment in technology can help unlock the value of wind in locations across the globe."

BC Hydro has agreed to buy the energy generated from the Meikle project under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
