GE will provide the gas turbines, generators, accessories, technical assistance and training to the EPC contractor for the project, China Machinery & Equipment Company.

Power Holding Company of Nigeria will own and operate the new plant, which will have a generating capacity of more than 500MW of electricity and is expected to enter commercial service in 2013.

Primary fuel for the plant is natural gas and the planned shipment for the four gas turbines is mid-2011.

The government of Nigeria has set a target to add 35,000MW of new electricity generation capacity over the next 10 years to support the country’s development.
