GE has received an order from Amandi Energy to deliver 200MW combined-cycle power plant in Aboadze, Ghana.
For the project, GE will supply its 9E.04 gas turbine with tri-fuel capabilities, which will initially be fuelled by light crude oil. Later, it will be fuelled using Ghana’s domestic gas from the offshore Sankofa natural gas field, once it is available.
The electricity generated from the power plant will be enough to power more than one million Ghanaian homes.
GE will also supply the steam turbine, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), associated balance of plant and a 7 year contractual service agreement (CSA).
Amandi Energy Ghana general manager Boaz Lavi said: “GE’s fuel capabilities are unmatched. Having a turbine that is able to switch between fuels can provide increased plant operability allowing for power generation months before the indigenous gas supply would otherwise be available.
“This is crucial in helping Ghana meet its growing power needs.”
According to GE, its 9E gas turbine can run on more than 50 types of fuels and can also switch between natural gas, distillate and heavy oil fuel while operating in full load. It also claims that the turbine with its multiple features can help in keeping fuel costs down, while increasing revenue.
In late February this year, Amandi Energy raised $552 from the manager of the ARM-Harith Infrastructure Fund for the construction of the plant, The Punch newspaper reported.
Amandi Energy said that the investment included $134m in equity from the sponsor group comprising of Endeavor Energy, Amandi Founder Group, Aldwych International, Pan African Infrastructure Development Fund 2 managed by Harith General Partners, and ARMHIF.
