The new headquarters is expected to be operational by January 2014 and will see a limited number of employees from support division being relocated to London.
GE Oil & Gas president and CEO Dan Heintzelman said London was selected as the new headquarters location given its position as a leading international business and travel hub.
"From this location, a team of leaders from our global support functions will be able to more efficiently reach and serve our colleagues and businesses globally," Heintzelman added.
GE Oil & Gas includes Turbomachinery Products & Services in Florence, Italy, Subsea Systems in Aberdeen, UK, Measurement & Control in Boston, Massachusetts, Drilling & Surface in Houston, Texas, Downstream & Unconventional Products & Services in Houston, Texas, Lufkin in Lufkin, Texas, and PII Pipeline Solutions in Cramlington, UK.
The Turbomachinery products & services facility, which serves as a key manufacturing and engineering site for the production of centrifugal compressors and gas turbines, will remain as global headquarters for the Turbomachinery business.
Heintzelman said that Florence will keep strengthening its reputation as a center of excellence for the manufacturing of centrifugal compressors and gas turbines.
"In 2012 alone we invested more than $100 million in the modernization of our plants in Italy and continue to be committed to maintaining Florence as one of our premiere manufacturing sites," Heintzelman added.
