USA • GAS FIRING GE AEP has completed the turnkey installation of a 90-MW power plant in Anadarko, Oklahoma, in just over four months, nearly four weeks ahead of schedule. Based on two GE LM6000 gas turbine-generator sets, the new plant is owned by WFEC Genco L.L.C. and will supply electricity to Coral Power LLC.
Construction began at the site in December 2000, and the plant was commissioned on April 11. It is operating in simple-cycle mode but can be expanded to combined cycle to meet future power requirements. Along with the two gas turbines, the project includes a 2200 tonR chiller, a water treatment plant, cooling tower, fuel gas compressor, a black start generator, an automated plant supervisory control system, and ancillary equipment. In addition to supplying and installing the equipment, GE was responsible for all site construction activities.Hadi Hashemi, project manager for GE AEP, said that the use of installation and commissioning procedures developed through GE’s ‘Six Sigma Quality’ initiative was a key to the early competition of the project. GE also employed another Six Sigma tool, failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), to develop a ‘road map’ for the project which predicts and avoid potential problems.
