Russian oil and gas company Gazprom and the Leningrad Oblast government have signed an agreement of co-operation to continue to develop the Leningrad Oblast gas supply system as part of the Nord Stream gas pipeline project.

Both parties have agreed to work through economic, organizational and legislative issues to facilitate domestic gas use by reconstructing and upgrading fuel and energy equipment.

Additionally, the parties plan to work out issues related to the development of the energy supply systems for industrial consumers based on the use of modern gas saving technologies and equipment.

The Leningrad Oblast government is expected to provide full payment of the current gas deliveries to budget consumers and to prepare consumers for gas intake, including the installation of gas metering equipment. The government plans to install economically proven gas consumption volumes for consumers who do not have gas metering equipment.

Gazprom has agreed to provide uninterrupted gas supply to the Leningrad Oblast. The company will earmark financial resources for the design and exploration works and to construct and start-up new gasification facilities in the area.
