Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has signed an agreement with the Italian company Alerion Parco Eolico Licodia Eubea, an affiliate of Alerion Industries, for the supply of 26 Gamesa G5X 850kW wind turbines during 2009, amounting to total installed power generation capacity of 22MW.

According to the company, the wind turbine generators will be made for the Licodia Eubea wind farm located in the Sicilian region of Catania.

The agreement includes the supply of the wind turbines, their installation and start-up, as well as their operation and maintenance. The start of assembly work is foreseen for the first quarter of 2009, said the company.

The annual electricity produced at these installations is expected to replace 4,730 tons of petroleum equivalent per year and avoid the emission into the atmosphere of 33,000 tons of CO2 per year, claims Gamesa.

Earlier in the last week of December 2008, Gamesa said that it received orders for a total power of 294,95 MW that would be supplied in 2009 from Longyuan Electric Power Group Corporation, a firm engaged in renewable energies in the Asian country that belongs to the Guodian Corporation. The wind turbines ordered amount to a total of 347 units from the Gamesa G5X-850 kW platform manufactured in Gamesa’s production facilities in Tianjin.
