Developers Mexico Power Group and First Reserve awarded the contract to Gamesa.

The Spanish company will deploy 65 of its G114-2.0 MW turbine models in the power plant.

As the project demands an immediate use of the power plant, Gamesa will be responsible for delivering the infrastructure required for installation and the operations of the turbines.

Delivery and commissioning of the turbines will be completed by 2016.

The firm will also be accountable for the related operation and maintenance services at the power plant over the long term.

The power generated at La Bufa will be provided to the Volkswagen factories in the Mexican cities of Puebla and Silao.

National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has certified that Gamesa’s G114-2.0 MW turbine, and its 2.1 MW version in Brazil, work in compliance with the FINAME code.

This specifies a series of local manufacturing requirements for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) operating in Brazil.

The BNDES approval qualifies Gamesa for access to the development bank’s credit lines.

Production of this new model will commence from 2016 in Gamesa’s nacelle factory in Camaçari, Bahia.

This model is designed to yield more power at reduced cost at low and medium wind speed sites, thus facilitating the low-turbulence wind conditions in Brazil.

Since its commencement in 1999, Gamesa has been very active in its capacity as OEM, having installed over 1,700 MW at various stages of development.

It has recently announced its plans to build a wind tower factory through Windar Renovables.

The project will be a joint venture between Gamesa and Daniel Alonso Group.
