This order entails delivering 20 MW of solar power in Hambantota province, in southern Srilanka.

Under this contract, Gamesa will provide complete turnkey EPC solutions that include engineering and design, supply of Gamesa Electric inverters, erection and commissioning of the 20MW photovoltaic solar plants.

The plant will commence operation by October 2016.

Gamesa Solar in India

This focus on the photovoltaic sector in India fits with the strategic goal enshrined in the 2015-2017 business plan of exploring opportunities in businesses that complement the wind industry, such as solar power.

India’s solar potential has been sized at 750 GW.

The government’s goal is to lift installed capacity to 100 GW by 2022, compared to 3.8 GW today.

As of today, Gamesa India has commissioned about 16MW of solar power projects in India and over 60MW is under execution.
