The contract with Spanish developer Smartener covers supply, installation and commissioning of 25 of Gamesa’s G114 2MW turbines at the wind farm.
The deal also includes a five-year O&M services agreement. Gamesa plans to start turbine delivery in November this year and the wind farm is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2016.
Phase one of the Maldonado wind farm was also developed by Smartener. It is already operational, featuring 25 of Gamesa’s G97 2MW turbines.
Gamesa said the deal for Maldonado is its first contract in Uruguay for G114 2MW turbine model, which is designed to yield more power at lower cost at low and medium wind speed sites.
Gamesa has to date installed 150MW in Uruguay. Consultant BTM predicts that the capacity in the market is estimated to experience triple-digit growth rates with potential installation of 1.4GW by 2016.
